The Approach Shot is our golf “flavored” podcast and radio show. We call it “golf flavored” because we interview celebrities and semi-celebrities about their time in the spotlight, their passions, their projects, giving back to the community and of course, their golf game.
What makes The Approach Shot unique is that we try not to ask the same old questions our guests have been asked over and over. Sure, we cover the areas that made them well known, but we also ask about their golf game (the good, the bad and the ugly) and their love affair and hatred for golf.
Pro Football Guru Russell Baxter talks ESPN, the NFL season and makes some early post season predictions
11-24-2024
There's a reason he's called the Pro Football Guru- two dozen years at ESPN working with Chris (Boomer) Berman, Tom Jackson and the crew gave him the home at which he could use his remarkable research skills. Working with CBS' Thursday Night Football, CBS sports Radio, NFL Network, Fan Sided and so many more honed his incredible skills.
But he's not just football.
He loves his golf and loves his family and we get to talk about all of that and more. RUSSELL BAXTER is a great talent, a great man and a great friend and he's our guest on this week's episode of The Approach Shot.
Gonzo Gates, GH and Golf- Gregory Harrison, one of the greatest actors of our generation graces our stage on this episode of The Approach Shot
11-17-2024
People ask why we love doing The Approach Shot and talking with actors, athletes, authors and others about their lives and their golf games.
It's episodes like this, where we talk with one of the most humble and real celebrities you'll ever meet, Gregory Harrison. He is just as excited to talk about his almost 50 year acting career as he is about his golf game.
Having just come off shooting a 75 the day before we talked with him, he shrugs and says, "if I had just chipped a little better, my score would have been better." Sound familiar?
Humble, handsome and hilarious, our conversation with Gregory Harrison is a must listen.
Ernie Whitt- MLB's Canadian Hero from Detroit
11-10-2024
If you vacation in Canada and want to have people buy you a Molson, mention Ernie Whitt's name. He is practically royalty in Canada, a member of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and a beloved All Star catcher for the Toronto Blue Jays.
In fact, he was the last "original" member of the Jays, having been drafted by the Red Sox, but the Blue Jays took him in the expansion draft, as he was the anchor of the team for a decade. His power at the plate and his defensive prowess behind the plate made him one of MLB's great players from 1975-1991.
And man, does he love talking golf!
Ernie Whitt is our guest on this week's episode of The Approach Shot.
"Ballers" and Bruins- Donovan Carter (Vernon Littlefield on "Ballers") talks football, life lessons and his 5 year run on a hugely popular TV show
11-03-2024
When you play college football for UCLA, one of LA's two big college football programs, you are certainly not guaranteed a part in a popular TV show.
DONOVAN CARTER is the exception. His hard work, good fortune and persistence landed him the part of Vernon Littlefield on HBO's hugely successful "Ballers" (starring Dwayne Johnson).
Still humble, funny and grateful for his success, Donovan is a terrific young man, still hungry and feeling blessed. Our conversation reveals how much Donovan is in Vernon. It's a terrific listen!
Houston's favorite son Nate "The Great" Griffin from Fox 26 TV talks Houston (and all) sports, favorite condiments (!!) and of course golf!
10-27-2024
When you turn on Fox 26's Morning show, you will see our buddy Nate Griffin, but doing what? Who knows? He is the sportscaster for the show, but has also been the general assignments reporter. That means he could be talking with politicians, city officials, sports stars or business owners. So he is a man of the people and you can tell listening to him, that he loves what he does.
He's also done color commentary for Rice Football for decades, and is just one of those lucky people that has love for his city, and is loved by his city.
And boy, does he love this golf (and sadly, mayonnaise).
So come take a trip to Houston with us and talk to one of the city's favorite sons.
Nate "The Great" Griffin is insightful, smooth and hilarious and we are delighted that he stopped by to share his tales with us on this week's episode of The Approach Shot.
