Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of Alfa Romeo turns the spotlight on the next announced best seller of the Biscione which will have a different name from the press rumors filtered so far, traditional engines, an electric variant and style signed by the new designer Alejandro Mesonero
Perhaps we will have to give up completing the trio of evocative names with an alpine background, but not the substance of a model destined to become the next best seller announced for Alfa Romeo. In the family of the Biscione SUVs, the third model that will join Stelvio and Tonale “will not be called Brennero, because we are reflecting on naming strategy, we have the name in mind, and it will be something very respectful of the history of the brand ”. With these words Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of Alfa Romeo, rekindles the spotlight on a car crucial for the Stellantis strategy in the sector of urban-sized B-SUVs, which will follow the plug-in hybrid variant of Tonale and the restylings of the Giulia and Stelvio, focusing on a considerably larger clientele.
Last March 1st it was the turn of the number one of the Stellantis group, Carlos Tavares, to illustrate the strategic plan Give Forward 2030, the date by which the company expects to launch 75 products globally. The greatest attention in Europe, however, goes to a new family of cars destined to be born in the Tychy factory in Poland and representative of Stellantis’ choice to offer variants of traditional engines alongside electric alternatives. Three models that belong to this project with the announcement already made of the debut of one Urban Suv Jeep brand that will be launched in early 2023, followed shortly after by a Fiat variant. The keystone will lie in the adaptation of the current modular CMP platform, also available in its electric variant e-CMP, that is with electric motorization. An entire generation of compact SUVs such as Peugeot 2008, Opel Mokka or DS3 Crossback already uses it. “The new model will probably be unveiled in March 2024” anticipates Jean-Philippe Imparato, implicitly underlining that the arrival of the Urban Suv Alfa Romeo, so far identified in the press with the name Brenner, will take place over a longer period also to allow it to carefully build its personality. The style will be curated by Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, from 2021 at the head of Alfa Romeo design and therefore only marginally involved in the Tonale project, but called to his first interpretation for the brand. New scenarios also on the engine front with the possible evolution of the 136 hp electric variant currently available for all models with e-Cmp platform. The road is also open to the use of the 155 HP 1.2 three-cylinder petrol engine and the 131 HP 1.5 diesel four-cylinder engine, both already in the Peugeot 2008 range.
