Bill prices are rising and, with autumn just around the corner, winter is inexorably approaching and will lead to colder temperatures. A season that risks bringing families and businesses to their knees, struggling with costs that are difficult to sustain. In addition to aid from the government, citizens are forced to follow rules and advice to save, thus trying to soften the burden of an expense that has tripled compared to the averages of previous years.
Bills, how to save: rules and advice
After all, following the rules and advice contained in the recommendations bear fruit. The savings plan prepared by the Italian government, for example, can also have a positive impact on the accounts of individual families. The figure of the reduction in gas and electricity bills can reach 607 euros in just one year.
Heating: reduced hours and degrees
The squeeze on heating – with one degree less, the ignition reduced by one hour a day and 15 days a year – could lighten the bill 178.63 euros. Attention to the shower is worth even more: 250 euros if you reduce from 7 to 5 minutes and lower the temperature by three degrees. The data, processed in recent days by Enea, the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development which collaborated with Minister Roberto Cingolani on the plan. But it is clear, assuming a standard family, and above all that the behavior really fits the indications. Then, as always, the statistics must be read with the premise that each has its own impact. This also applies to energy. But the data of Enea are not those of the chicken of Trilussa and can be used to understand, in practice, what happens with the behaviors we carry out. The estimates start from what will be an obligation.
Reduction of heating days
The 15-day reduction of the winter heating switch-on period, with an hour less a day and the limit of 19 degrees indoors, is worth a saving of 133.53 cubic meters of gas per family in a year and lightens the bill of 178.63 euros. If we had limited ourselves only to cutting the temperature by one degree, the savings amounted to 109 euros. One hour a day is worth 26.7 euros. And this also applies to those who have an autonomous system which, indeed, by limiting consumption even more, could perhaps save even more. Then there is an estimate of the impact it could have on electricity and gas consumption with the voluntary adoption of virtuous behavior. The measures are defined as ‘soft’ and are at no cost. The total is € 428.75 but, in the choice of behaviors that each family could adopt, the subdivision item by item is also interesting.
The showers, the pasta, the dishwasher, the washing machine
The lion’s share in savings is made by reducing the time and temperature of the shower: if instead of 7 minutes you limit yourself to 5 and lower the water temperature by 3 degrees, consumption is reduced by 35% and is valid. 252.23 euros saved. Clearly, lowering the heat after boiling the pasta is worth less: 12.46 euros. Halving the use of the washing machine (one every two days instead of one a day) and the dishwasher (once a day instead of two) allows you to reduce your electricity bill by 52.29 and 74.69 euros respectively.
Small savings not to be underestimated
There are also small savings which, when added together, can have a value: unplug the washing machine (1.58 euros), the refrigerator during the holidays (3.42 euros), do not leave TV, decoder and DVD on standby (4 , 53 euros), reduce the ignition of the kitchen oven (13.78 euros) be careful to turn off the light by reducing each single bulb by one hour a day (11.92 euros). Of course it is also possible to do more. It’s not part of the government’s savings plan, but a family that invests in a new appliance saves. A few examples? An 8 kg washing machine that passes from class G to class A allows savings of 67.9 euros per year, a 300-liter refrigerator that makes the same ‘leap’ of classes cuts the bill by 83.92 euros a year. If, on the other hand, you change the mix of light bulbs (first 40% incandescent, 25 LEDs and 35 fluorescent, then 32% incandescent, 38% LED and 31% fluorescent) the savings are worth about 18 euros.
If the winter were to be particularly harsh then the view could be the reduction of the energy flow by the distributors themselves on the recommendation of the sector authorities, after consulting the government, which would in fact prevent the ignition at the same time during peak hours. , range indicated as the most problematic and the most necessary to attack by Von der Leyen, of the most energy-intensive household appliances, such as dishwashers and washing machines, hairdryers and microwaves. But the practical application – explained Minister Roberto Cingolani himself in recent days – could be made difficult by the fact that not everyone has the new generation general switches. If the rule is implemented, we will have to organize ourselves, perhaps getting up early to do the washing machines and a shower and in the evening wash the dishes left on the sink with the dishwasher while we can perhaps watch on TV how many savings we have managed to guarantee in this winter of war. , at the moment, at least this to be seen in a positive, indirect way.
Drink tap water
The advantages for those who choose to drink tap water instead of bottled water are both environmental and economic: a family of three can, in fact, save on average up to 480 euros per year. This is revealed by the Hera Group which publishes the fourteenth edition of ‘In good waters’, a thematic sustainability report on the quality of drinking water. 54% of Hera customers have already moved in this direction, thus also helping the environment through the non-consumption of over 300 million plastic bottles. If everyone did, another 420 million bottles could be avoided. “The key to every improvement – comments Orazio Iacono, CEO of the Hera Group – is made of awareness, and this report has the precise objective of conveying useful information for a correct debate on water, while also continuing to report on investments in a timely manner and the quality of the water distributed by Hera in the areas served “. “A water – concludes Iacono – that you can really trust and that 54% of our customers already use to quench their thirst instead of bottled water, a figure higher than the Italian average of 29% and which we hope for further increases in future in the direction of environmental sustainability and economic savings “. Having clear ideas about water, on the other hand, is not at all simple and for this reason the new edition of the report has decided to address and dispel some false myths that distort the public perception of the issue. only 26% of people know the extent of their annual spending on water, with the majority of respondents therefore ignoring or even overestimating this figure, a very curious fact, also because Italy – unlike here too what most people think – it has water rates among the lowest in Europe. The confusion, not surprisingly, also reigns supreme over the activities that make up the integrated water service, with an abundant half of the interviewees who do not include sewerage and purification activities, which are fundamental for a correct closing of the circle and for the restitution to the environment of a resource compatible with ecosystems and further reuse. So much so that 40% of the costs of the water service are used to manage sewerage and purification. Without forgetting the daily water consumption of each of us, which 68% of people estimate between 155 and 190 liters and which instead have now reached 220 liters. It is therefore necessary to commit to saving resources, and to this end Hera makes the Consumption Diary available, an intuitive tool for comparing one’s own water consumption with those of others and thus being able to improve: already available for 27% of customers Hera Spa will be extended to all Hera Spa and AcegasApsAmga customers over the next few years.
