Car consumption ranking. Here are the ones they consume by type of engine in 2022. (Mercedes-Benz)

When choosing a car, parameters such as the purchase price, line, passenger compartment and trunk capacity, segment or standard accessories tend to be more considered. But in a period of crisis like the one we are experiencing, and with high fuel prices, running costs and consumption should be one of the aspects to consider most when choosing a car.

Modern cars with internal combustion engines already consume much less than in the past, but now we have a lot of new petrol-LPG or petrol/diesel-electric hybrid systems, which allow even more to reduce the running costs of the car.

For those who do many kilometers a year, traveling an extra 10 or 20 km/l can guarantee exceptional savings and therefore the choice of car model to drive should never overlook this aspect.

Then there are also full electric cars, which are becoming increasingly popular and will become standard in a decade or so. However, the choice of a similar car, although it allows you to save the most on fuel (recharging the battery still has a cost unless you have a super photovoltaic station at home) and to protect the environment, still presents several problems autonomy and recharging.

Not to mention the electricity network which is still too scarce and incomplete, especially in the central-southern areas.
So let’s see which cars consume the least by category, in order to help you save money in the long run. Sometimes the purchase price can be higher, but in the long run the expense is recovered and indeed one goes on to save.

The ranking of cars that consume the least by type of power supply in 2022

As for petrol cars, we have already made a lot of progress with the turbo engines, which have allowed us to increase horsepower but also drastically reduce consumption. If about ten years ago a small 80 HP utility vehicle consumed an average of 15 per litre, today we are around 20. Toyota always proves to be at the forefront in this field, and in fact its aygo x it is first in the standings in the consumption of petrol cars. With the 72 bhp 1.0 three-cylinder engine, it manages to travel on average (real consumption) well 4.00 l/100 km or 25 km/l.

As for the ranking of diesel carsMercedes takes the primacy with Class Awhich with the model equipped with the 116 bhp 2.0 diesel engine manages to cover an average of 3.85 l/100 km, or 25.97 km/l. In LPG cars, the Nissan Micra takes the lead, which with a 90 C 1.0 engine manages to cover 5.50 l/100 km (18.18 km/l). It seems little, but LPG is a gas and a full tank costs much less, just under 20 euros is enough for an incredible range of 360 km.

We close our ranking of record holders with Full Hybrid and Plugin-Hybrid. In the first category is the Mazda 2 full hybrids to shine, that a 1.5 three-cylinder and 116 HP produced by Toyota consumes only 3.70 l/100 km, totaling an average of 27.03 km/l. As for the Plugin-Hybridthe star of the show is a car from the three-star brand: the Mercedes C-Class Station Wagon Hybrid plugin it has a 2.0-litre endothermic petrol engine and no less than 313 HP which, thanks to the combination of an efficient electric motor and a good CX, obtains an excellent range of 2.80 l/100 km, thus covering an average of 35.71 km /L.
