Gasoline price: another government decision arrives

The cut in excise duties is the measure taken months ago, and extended several times, to cope with the continuous increase in fuel prices at the pump, which has been going on since the beginning of this year. The government has adopted this measure and today has decided to extend it again, as the situation has not improved.

Therefore, if the last postponement was dated 5 October, the Executive has decided to postpone the reduction in the cost of fuel by about 30 cents until next October 17th, and then we’ll see how it turns out. The Minister of Economy and Finance, Daniele Franco, and the Minister of Ecological Transition, Roberto Cingolani, signed the inter-ministerial decree. In the text just approved the new extension is established, the announcement was made by the two Ministries with a specific joint note issued in the past few hours.

The continuous extensions since April

We know that since the beginning of the year the situation of pump prices in Italy has been putting a strain on the families of the country, everything has then worsened with the outbreak of the war between Russia and Ukraine and the increase in the costs of utility bills. electricity and gas. Since March, gasoline prices have skyrocketed, at levels never seen before. Refueling for Italians has become a real drain, especially for those who are used to using the car every day, mainly for work and other personal needs.

It was this that prompted the government to provide a measure that would help citizens, the cut in excise duties, which in effect led to a reduction in petrol and diesel prices of approximately 25%, to which the VAT of 22% must however be added, for a discount of approximately 30 cents on each liter of fuel. Since April they have started the first extensions to the provision issued by the Executive, then continue on May 2, July 8, August 2 and 21, September 20, October 5 and today, until October 17. Consumer associations, however, have criticized from the outset the actions of the government which, as we have seen for months now, are not enough.

Falling fuel prices

It seems that today the prices of gasoline and diesel in Italy have returned to fall, fortunately, after two sessions on the rise. The new fuel bonus has also been approved, we have seen it in the past few hours. Brent drops, just under $ 93, and so do the fuel at the pump. According to the usual survey by Staffetta Quotidiana, this morning (September 14, 2022) Eni reduced the recommended petrol and diesel prices by two cents per liter.
