Stellantis relaunches the Mirafiori plant: two new investments in Turin announced

Mirafiori returns to the center of Stellantis programming and production. From 2023 the Hub for the Circular Economy will be built within the Turin production center, but the production of components for electric cars will also start.

“The plant will begin operating with three activities designed to increase production sustainability: remanufacturing of components, reconditioning and dismantling of vehicles. The goal is to expand further globally,” the company explains in a statement, “This initiative is based on the skills currently held by the company and represents a further important step in the implementation of the strategic plan for the Stellantis Circular Economy business unit. The latter aims to quadruple the revenues deriving from the extension of the useful life of components and services. and to increase by 10 times, compared to 2021, the revenues obtained from recycling by 2030 “.

Not only that, however, because Stellantis has also announced the signing with its joint venture partner, Punch Powertrain, of a new agreement to increase the production of next-generation electrified dual-clutch transmissions (eDCT) for hybrid and plug-electric hybrid vehicles. -in (PHEV) of Stellantis. The agreement aims to satisfy the growing demand for electric cars and to achieve the important objectives presented in the strategic plan Dare Forward 2030. The updated plant will be located in the Mirafiori complex in Turin, Italy, and will complement the current production capacity of Metz, France.

“Today’s announcements highlight both our commitment to Italy and our ability to make responsible decisions to anticipate the impending global change in our industry as we strive to achieve our Dare Forward 2030 goals,” said Carlos Tavares , CEO of Stellantis, during a meeting with journalists.

“We have created a very important division for the circular economy. We believe it is a fundamental activity for the future and we believe that there will be a lack of raw materials and materials that we can recycle to protect the planet. Extend the life of products that we create is important, so reusing the materials or extending their life is fundamental for the future sustainability of the company “, explained Tavares.

“Here in Mirafiori, electric components will be produced that will give us a very high level of competitiveness in the applications that we will use in our electric hybrid cars”, continues Tavares talking about the new industrial production that will be installed in Turin, “We can reduce emissions by 50% if we replace the old vehicles with electric hybrid ones. We can protect the freedom of mobility for citizens and at the same time the planet. It therefore means important volumes for Stellantis and reduction of emissions for the planet “.

Two production lines will be installed in Mirafiori which in total should guarantee the production of 600,000 annual components which will be added to the 600,000 that will be produced in the other pole that Stellantis will open in France. Production will start in early 2023.
