Volkswagen ID.7: the first information

There Volkswagen shows the first pictures of the sedan ID.7which will be previewed at CES in Las Vegas (5-8 January 2023): it will debut fully in May and will be on sale by the end of this year to compete with the leader of this segment, the Tesla Model 3.

There Volkswagen ID.7engineered on the MEB modular platform (the same as ID.3 and ID.4), has a particular camouflage which still does not show the full details. A multilayer painting was used to make it; 40 layers of paint were applied, some of which are conductive and others with insulating properties, so as to create light effects on the parts of the vehicle.

There Volkswagen ID.7 draws inspiration from the ID.AERO04 concept, presented in China, and embodies a new concept of streamlined design, capable of actively contributing to the car reaching a range of 700 km (WLTP). It is therefore characterized by a particularly fluid coupe-like sedan design, with a low roofline (improving aerodynamic flows) which flows into the rear outlining a particularly sloping rear window. The shape of the headlights and taillights is more conventional, without LEDs which connect the two luminous elements.

Big leap forward in configuration interior from the Volkswagen ID.7, which appear decidedly more refined than those present on the current ID.3 and ID.4. The dashboard develops horizontally with a 15” display responsible for controlling the main functions. The instrument panel nestled between the two lids of the dashboard is decidedly more discreet. There will also be a new head-up display system with augmented reality (information will be superimposed on the windshield that “mix” with reality).

The air flow management of the Volkswagen ID.7 is also completely new; away the classic air vents in favor of a large opening that extends to the full width. It is a new concept of air conditioner with “intelligent” vents capable of detecting the approach of the driver and, based on the temperature, the system will begin to cool or heat the passenger compartment. These “smart air vents” control the air flow and move dynamically to distribute the air over large surfaces quickly. There are also voice commands through which it is possible to control all the “climate” functions. If the user pronounces: “Hi Volkswagen, my hands are cold”, the ID.7 responds by starting the heating function of the steering wheel with the hot air that is directed towards the hands. The few physical keys present are illuminated and touch-sensitive.

With the ID.7 sedan, Volkswagen expands its family of electric ID.7s. with a car in the upper middle segment. The ID.7 is one of ten new electric models to be launched by 2026, as well as the sixth model of the ID family, succeeding the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5 and ID.6 (only in China) and ID. Buzz.

To date Volkswagen has delivered 500,000 vehicles of the ID family. all over the world. The ID.7 electric sedan is expected to be launched in China, Europe and America, with production starting at the Emden plant, where the ID.4 is already being produced.
