Netflix closes the series ‘1899’, it is addressed on social networks

It is true had divided the fans of dark between those who loved her and who didn’t, yet no one expected the series 1899 was canceled after the first season. And to think that the New York Times had put it in the list of the best series of the year. It was the showrunners themselves Baran Bo Odar and Jantje Friesealready authors of the successful German series, to break the news: the story of the mysterious steamer traveling between England and New York will therefore not have its ending.

Odar wrote on Instagram: “It is with great regret that we have to inform you that 1899 it will not be renewed. We would have loved to finish this incredible journey with a second and third season like we did with dark. But sometimes things don’t go as planned. This is the life. We know this will disappoint millions of fans out there. But we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being part of this wonderful adventure. We love you. Never forget that.”

The closing of the doors of the series 1899, whose first season is on Netflix, has sparked followers on Twitter who have made #1899 one of the trending hashtags with thousands of comments, almost all with their index finger pointing at the network guilty of having canceled the series. In several tweets we read the threat of followers against Netflix of wanting to cancel the subscription and a special “Save 1899” account was created to ask the platform to reverse.

In the year that marks the transition from one century to the next, a steamer full of migrants of all social classes and geographical origins left England for New York. Halfway through the journey, a message arrives from another ship of the same company, the Prometheus, which however has been missing for four months, the journey of these men and women will undergo a sudden change of course which will take them instead of to the promised land towards a incomprehensible nightmare. Between Titanic and Shining, the series tells a mix of stories, which are those of travelers from first to third class. There is the young Chinese who escaped with her mother from a brothel, a Spanish homosexual couple who pretend to be relatives and hide a crime, a French husband and wife who have just married but whose marriage is already on the brink, very poor Dutch families who dream of a future in America. And then the German crew and its captain, tormented by the tragedy of his family, wife and four daughters who died in a fire, who will form a unique bond with a doctor who cares deeply about the fate of the Prometheus.
