Omicron, the anomaly in hospitals: “Who are the inmates, what do they really have”

The numbers are rising. But in the hospitals Italianswhere positive patients are increasing Covid, the great majority of the patients are hospitalized for other diseases. And he, once he arrives in the ward, he also discovers that he is positive for the virus. The proportions of this phenomenon were given yesterday by the governor of Liguria Giovanni Toti: «Covid does not have the same effects as two years ago. Today there are far fewer patients in our hospitals, in Liguria only 30% are really hospitalized for the virus, 70% enter the hospital for other reasons and then discover that they are positive and asymptomatic for routine swabs and are classified as a covid patient ” . Hence the request to change the “approach” to Covid: “The government is putting the rules back, which no longer correspond to reality. Today we continue to consider it as a more dangerous disease than it actually is, with hospitals organized according to the virus and therefore less effective in responding to other diseases, limitations in many areas of healthcare, a system of tampons that churns out thousands of asymptomatic infected. , forced into the house for days ».

NO ALARM
There Omicron 5 it runs, but it doesn’t scare the governors. Even Attilio Fontana, president of Lombardy, yesterday on Libero called for calm: there is no alarm, the situation is under control in hospitals. Mario Balzanelli, national president of the Health Service of Urgency and Medical Emergency (118), yesterday spoke of an assault of asymptomatic people in hospitals: «In the emergency rooms in this period many people who are positive for the SarsCoV2 virus are found to be completely asymptomatic. They are people who come to accompany minors or the elderly, or to make medications, and who have to swab as expected for anyone who arrives in an emergency room “. There are many infected, and there are many positives with zero symptoms or very slight symptoms. «It is the index of a very high circulation» confirms Balzanelli. This is also confirmed by the report of the Higher Institute of Health, which speaks of an increase in non-notified cases: “In this phase, characterized by the circulation of highly transmissible variants, there has probably been a sharp increase in the share of people who have had an infection not notified to the surveillance systems for reasons related to underdiagnosis or self-diagnosis phenomena “. There are those who have no symptoms, or those who have a swab do you date and it is negative, or those who are positive but do not report to the health system.

FRAGILE SUBJECTS
Once again, fragile subjects are seriously affected by Covid: the Omicron 5 variant, in these cases, can also affect the lungs. Balzanelli also points out that “desaturations are beginning to be seen in the emergency room, especially in oncological and haematological patients, despite the fourth dose of the vaccine”. In general, he adds, “the wards are filling up with infectious diseases.” But in the mass of people who are taking (or recovering) Covid, sporadic symptoms or, if anything, infections of the upper respiratory tract prevail. Silvestro Scotti, secretary general of the Fimmg, Italian Federation of General Practitioners, explains it well: “As family doctors we are observing an exponential increase in the infection, but with prevalent symptoms affecting the upper respiratory tract, therefore without an increase in terms of pneumonia “. Sewers also testify to an increase in cases: the trend in the concentration of Sars-CoV-2 in wastewater has increased by more than 30% in the last two weeks. Yesterday was also the piqued reply of the infectious disease specialist Matteo Bassetti to the Nobel prize winner Giorgio Parisi: «Parisi says that it is” absurd to reduce the obligation to wear a mask “. It is a bit like when, during the World Cup or the European football championship, everyone is training, they are all coaches ».
