7 tips to save electricity with PlayStation 4 – Player.it

If you are an avid gamer, or have one at home, you have probably wondered more than once how you can save electricity using your PlayStation 4.

But is it really possible to reduce the power consumption of our console? If you follow proper recommendations, absolutely yes. The Playstation4 doesn’t have particularly high consumption, but if you end up playing with it for hours and hours they can begin to weigh on our walletso why not take advantage of some useful advice?

Below you will find our magical tips, to protect the environment and save money.

Save by playing

1. By entering standby mode, you can use some settings in the console to save energy. For example, it is possible to set our Playstation4 so that it does not connect to the Internet, thus preventing automatic updates. But also remember that this also turns off the power to the USB ports for the controllers. Be careful if you don’t want to end up with your joypad dead.

2. Do you feel like spending the evening watching some movies? Maybe taken directly from your Blu-ray collection? Then we advise you not to use the console, rather, if you have the possibility, use a Blu-ray player to play your favorite movies. Compared to the PlayStation, the player only consumes around 20 Watts, which is up to 80 Watts less per hour.

3. If you want to take advantage of some streaming platform, again, if you can, don’t use the PlayStation. Streaming through consoles uses up to 10x more power than streaming to a laptop or to a Blu-ray player, set-top box or smart TV. Here, now you know everything you need for a more eco-friendly movie night.

4. Get a power strip with independent switches. This will allow you to individually turn off each input that you are not using, so as not to waste electricity even when you are not playing with your Playstation. A word of warning though: make sure you turn off the console completely (and don’t put it to sleep) before turning off the power switch, otherwise the Playstation hard drive could be damaged.

5. Don’t underestimate the “sleep mode” of your Playstation. It is very useful when you want to pause your gaming session and resume exactly where you left off shortly after. You can take advantage of the “rest mode” even when you download a new update and we do not need to play, mitigating the power consumption of the console.

6. Activate the Playstation’s power saving settings, this will allow the console to go into “sleep mode” after one hour of inactivity, time that can be further reduced to save even more. To prevent the controller from staying on while we are not using it, we can instead take advantage of the function that allows you to turn off our joypad automatically after 10, 30 or 60 minutes of inactivity.

7. Last tip: always update the system software, whenever you can, as it may contain new functions that reduce the energy consumption of the Playstation.
