Ferrari presents its brand new One-Off, which joins the range of unique models of the Maranello company. The latest born leaves the production lines of Special Projects program. His name? Ferrari SP51. The supercar, tailor-made for the customer, is added to the most exclusive segment of the brand’s range, which includes unique projects, first outlined and then built on the basis of a customer’s requests.
How the One-Off is made
The SP51 was designed by the Ferrari Style Center under the direction of Flavio Manzoni. It is specifically a front-engined V12 spider, which based on the Ferrari 812 GTS. In fact, it is from this model that it inherits its layout, chassis and engine. The total absence of a roof is the most evident peculiarity, right from the first glance: an element that makes the car a roadster in all respects, which accentuates its sporty character and the ability to excite both at the sight and during driving en plein air.
For this Ferrari had to work ataerodynamic refinement through CFD simulations, wind tunnel tests and dynamic tests to guarantee not only maximum comfort in the passenger compartment, but also an optimal acoustic level and wind feeling, comparable to those of the car used as a base.
Style is powerful and harmonious, the supercar has wavy and muscular surfaces, without elements of discontinuity. The models are sinuous, modern and sensual, thanks also to the extensive use of exposed carbon fiber elements on both exteriors and interiors. The paint used for the bodywork is one of the elements that catches the eye on the SP51: the Passionate Red, new triple layer color specially developed for this model, never used before. A shade capable of giving the car an elegant and authoritative character, whose personality is enhanced by the longitudinal white and blue livery inspired by a legendary 1955 Ferrari 410 S.
The headlights on the front have been redesigned, and provide a strong and unmistakable identity to the look of the SP51. The rims are specific for this car and equipped with carbon fiber fins on all spokes, embellished by a refined tone-on-tone diamond finish on the front.
At the rear, an arched theme dominates the scene with headlights set under the spoiler. Behind the passenger compartment there are two humped elements and two deep shells in carbon fiber, which soften the line. In the middle we find a transverse airfoil, also in carbon fiber, folded over the moldings.
The interior of the new Ferrari SP51
The interior is something extraordinary, the industriousness and attention to detail in this car have reached incomparable heights. The customization was based on the choice of the dominant color of the Alcantara that covers it, the same Rosso Passionale created ad hoc for the exterior of the new One-Off Ferrari SP51, and on the effective idea of giving continuity to the longitudinal livery of the exterior. In fact, the colors white and blue also appear on the central tunnel and on the strip between the seats in the rear wall of the cabin, as well as on the seams of the steering wheel, generating total continuity between interiors and exteriors.
Of great impact the special finish provided for the door panels, the lower part of the dashboard and the seat side bolsters, made up of a blue Kvadrat insert with white ‘X’ stitching that reflects the livery pattern. The generous use of carbon fiber finishes with a glossy effect harmonizes perfectly with the matt Momo Black finishes.
The One-Off Ferrari SP51, like all Special Projectswas made for a wealthy and loyal customer from Taiwan, an important collector of Ferrari models. We can define it as a sort of roadster reinterpretation of the first front-engined V12 spider from the Maranello company after 50 years.
