As a Sony lover I start by saying a lot of theory and little practice. Xperia 1 IV is a top of the range with very high audio quality, a beautiful 4K display and an enviable technological refinement on the camera side but which then does not lead to equally exciting results neither in terms of rooms nor in terms of performance ..

Packaging and content
There packaging it is made of recycled paper and does not contain plastic, very good, just a pity that it does not contain anything at all. There is no power supply, no cable.
Design and touch-and-feel materials
Often 8.2mm and with a weight equal to 185 grams. As for the construction, Xperia 1 is IP65 / 68 certified and its display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus.
L’always-on there is and is customizable while as regards the connectivity we find 5G, WiFi6, Bluetooth APTX, NFC, Android Auto (which is still there), audio jack and USB-C port with video output.
Display
The display it’s a OLED from 6.5 ″ with resolution 4K, HDR and refresh rate a 120Hz. The settings are so many and it is a great display but if I understand such refinement on a TV here less. The calibration of the brightness sensor could be improved.
Processor and memory
The processor it is Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flanked by 12GB from RAM And 256GB from expandable internal memory via microSD.
Battery
The battery is one 5,000mAh with charge a 30W (i.e. from oa 50% in 30 minutes) and Sony claims three full years of durability without losing efficiency.
Autonomy unfortunately it is very variable, with a behavior that I define as Dr Jackill and Mr Hide because with a basic use it is satisfactory but with video, navigation, videocall and games the battery heats up and goes down. At the end of my stress day, however, I got there with 10%.
Software and ecosystem
On board we find Android 12 with patches updated in May. Sony was once the first to update but is now content to stay average. The software is almost stock, there is no drawer and there is great attention to multimedia apps. Nice side button for shooting but uncomfortable when for example you use a mobile phone holder.
Telephone department
The ability to have 2 SIM there is but only with one SIM normal and one eSIM. The dialer is that of Google, so report the possible numbers SPAM but it does not allow you to record calls, and the audio quality in calls is excellent. About reception looking at the notches it seems that it takes little but in the end it is average.
Photo and video
The room compartment is composed by:
- room principal 12MP f / 1.7 optically stabilized with autofocus,
- room ultra-wide angle 12MP f / 2.2 with autofocus,
- room with optical zoom from 12MP f / 2.3 with variable focal length between 85 and 125 mm (translates into zoom from 3.5X to 5.2X) optically stabilized with autofocus.
- 0.3MP depth sensor,
- room front 12MP f / 2.0.
The results are obviously good but the expectations were so high that they disappoint. Well the innovation of the continuous zoom but it is not that extended and the photos are not wow-worthy, perhaps because they are a bit dim.
Audio
One of the strong points of this smartphone is theaudiohigh quality from the speakers but above all from the headphone jack and also with Bluetooth given the protocols for the least possible loss of data and therefore for high fidelity.
Apps and gaming
To be fast it’s fast but not fast enough for the processor it has. In fact, we are talking about the best processor in circulation but him anyway warms a lot and lagga enough, symptoms of poor optimization. There vibration it is particular, it has its own motor designed to be superior and in fact when you write it is precise but when it comes into operation with the ringtone and the music this precision is lost and becomes a bit of a unique vibration “with the tail”.
THE games they run well, they heat up the smartphone a lot but they run. Well the too game mode which allows you to record the gameplay and broadcast it in live streaming.
Final judgement
Without beating around the bush, I’ll say it right away: I stayed disappointed. This is well 1,600 euros and I would not spend them, too much theory and in the end little practice and daily use. What a pity, said by a Sony lovers!
