Inter-Skriniar, progress on the renewal: maxi increase in salary

The fear was that Christmas would lead to a substantial rift between Inter and Milan Skriniar. Instead, the pre-Christmas appointment with the representatives of the Slovakian defender produced a significant approach in the now long negotiation for the renewal of the contract expiring in just six months.

The CEO Interista Beppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio were almost no longer hoping for it, instead they had signs of attention for the written proposal presented by the Nerazzurri club just under a month ago. And it was by no means obvious that the face-to-face meeting in the Viale della Liberazione headquarters would keep a negotiation going that has so far gone on and off, with the dangerous shadow of the PSG lurking since last summer.

In the package for Milan there is a salary of 6 million net, a big leap compared to the current quota of 3.8 million. But on the side of the player, those summer offers of around 9 million and the courtship of other important first-tier foreign clubs always shine. Despite this, Skriniar has never closed the door to his current environment in recent months, just as in the summer he has never lent his side to the courtship of PSG, leaving the ball for decisions exclusively to Inter. All the more reason his spirit of loyalty to the Nerazzurri cause is emerging in this very delicate phase. The postponements of the last few weeks had left room for doubt that the defender was taking time to get long, i.e. until the end of the season, without ever affixing the fateful signature. The last summit was held in the Inter headquarters in the utmost secrecy, despite the great attention on the case. And the discreet behavior of the protagonists confirms that no one wants to take advantage. Better to work quietly, without media reverberations. After a couple of hours of discussions, the Nerazzurri managers and Roberto Sistici, the player’s representative, decided to meet again after the holidays. More day, less day, we will talk about it in mid-January, that is to say with the market in full swing. To give further substance to Inter’s hopes of closing the case with a handshake there is another detail: in the dialogue no one ever mentioned the hypothesis of a shirt change in the running. That Inter are determined to keep close to their defender is there for all to see but it is equally significant that not even the player is distracted by different solutions. It is impossible to grasp the contractual nuances that are animating the negotiation. Obviously there are economic differences to be resolved between supply and demand, but the reserve of the parties testifies to the importance of the moment. No one wants to make the slightest mistake. In view of the resumption of the championship Skriniar is fully concentrated on his competitive commitments and the club intends to indulge his will.
