Stadio della Roma in Pietralata: from 60 thousand seats to the expropriation node, here is the project. “Goal 2026”

The first was collected by the Municipality, true yes of the Capitol at the Roma stadium to Pietralata, in the Giallorossi home we are thinking of the next moves: to file the preliminary project by September. Yesterday morning, joint note Campidoglio As Roma: “Following a series of joint meetings”, the Municipality “positively acknowledges the willingness of the Giallorossi club to present a feasibility study at the Campidoglio in the coming weeks for the construction of a stadium on a municipal area in the Pietralata area. The initial urban planning examination carried out on the area identified by AS Roma did not in fact highlight any obstacles to the presentation of the project which must be carefully evaluated by Roma Capitale according to the administrative procedure governed by the so-called stadium law (Article 1, paragraph 304 , L. 147/2013) “.

Stadio della Roma, first yes to Pietralata: the Giallorossi club will present the “feasibility study”

A formal yes, in the air for a couple of weeks already. But, in viale Tolstoj the internal time schedule expects to close by September the drafting of the preliminary project to be delivered in the Campidoglio: Rome has already started working on it for weeks, in fact since it was understood from the talks that urban planning loads, mobility, impact acoustics and ownership of the areas were problems considered by the municipal offices more than solvable.

THE COMMENT
“The possibility of making the stadium by 2026 is there, we will have to work a lot but so far everything has gone well”, said the CEO of the Giallorossi company, Pietro Berardi, on the sidelines of the presentation of the Conference League trophy on the Olimpico tour . Berardi added «There are various administrative phases, archaeological, environmental, acoustic and mobility surveys are needed. It is still early for a definitive design of the stadium, there will be in the coming weeks and months but the new stadium will not have a lower capacity than the Olimpico ». The new plant – expected capacity between 55 thousand and 60 thousand seats, to be built higher than the street level, with some shops around – will rise behind the Tiburtina station, therefore connected to both high-speed and regional trains, including those to and from for Fiumicino airport.

It will have the Quintiliani metro line B stop 400 meters away and will be accessible from Bologna, line B1 via a pedestrian bridge that will cross the railway tracks at viale Lorenzo il Magnifico. Parking lots should be located in areas adjacent to the railway. Private accessibility will be guaranteed by the East ring road, from via dei Monti Tiburtini and via di Pietralata, from Via Tiburtina (doubled) and from the urban penetration of the Rome-L’Aquila motorway. The construction of the two cycle and pedestrian bridges, the one in Lorenzo il Magnifico and the one on the Pietralata exit of the station, will be used to mend the connection with the green area within which the stadium will be built.

MOBILITY
From a mobility point of view, therefore, the only real problem to be solved in the planning stage will be to guarantee a corridor reserved for ambulances to and from the adjacent Sandro Pertini hospital. Which must also be well acoustically insulated. It is no coincidence that in recent weeks the councilor for transport, Eugenio Patanè, had also explained: «It is clear that the Pietralata site from a transport and traffic point would have advantages compared to the sites proposed in the past. Pietralata is well served by local public transport. It will be necessary to focus attention on via dei Monti Tiburtini to somehow safeguard the entrance to the Pertini hospital ». Finally, there is the question concerning the old expropriations made in recent decades to create the SDO. Both Rome and the Capitol, however, believe that the issue is resolvable: the past years should protect the process from the risk of appeals.
